Filmed the lads playing individually tonight. Started at 4, didn’t leave till midnight. Nice to have a dedicated, patient band.

After seeing the video for The Arcade Fires ;neon bible’ (that Chris showed us in class last year) I have been thinking about presenting my video clips online.
The Arcade Fire have released their new video clip in similar fashion - the only difference is that it’s 9,000 times better.
This is the band, ‘KASHA’, that I will be doing a video clip for. This is not the best clip (far away in the crowd/bad sound) - but it still gives the idea of the kind of band they are. Very technically orientated (weird timings, etc) and have a modern industrial feel. I plan on building giant smoke boxes (4 in total, 1 for each member) and placing them behind the band as they play. I may attempt to ’pulse’ them as the music sounds.
This clip showcases a visual style I am interested in applying. If I do intend on doing projections, using a chaotic style of imagery like this could quite possibly work well.
I have been doing loads of research into video clips, trying to find out what works and what doesn’t. It’s hard not just posting all clips I like, as opposed to ones that are relevant to what I’m trying to acheive (being a video clip nerd doesn’t help :p).
As I’m using projections (and hopefully/possibly) the band - this is a good example of a nice ‘clean’ video. The similarities are quite obvious really.
Hey gang peeps
I’ve been away for a while, but it’s because I’ve been working on this performance. Please watch all 5 mins :) If you’re not friends with me on FB- add me and I will accept.
So pretty much I’ve been messing around with my smoke box ideas again. I recently discovered after talking to other departments that I should keep going with it. Taking sculpture as my comp will help this loads.
Anyway, so I have scored a really good band to do a music video for. In my opinion, they are about to really go places and I’m in a great position to be there ‘first’. Everyone remembers their first yeah?
At this point my video ideas are using a smoke box (rear-projected, like the video) behind each member in the band, who will be playing live. You will only see their silhouettes. The main focus will be on the visuals, followed by the ambiguity.
In regards to layout, I wish for the band (4 members) to be displayed side by side. If you have ever seen a Grizzly Bear video (or them play live), this is the aesthetic I wish to endeavor into. In regards to influence, It should also be mentioned that the video ‘1901’ by Phoenix also plays a part in my research. From studies so far done, it’s apparent that projecting a plethora of chaotic, narrative based subject material may not be the best option. Focusing on geometric patterns (such as 1901, and the music of the band that I’m making this for) will potentially work better.
I’ll post links to those clips above. And hey, it’s good music too, so you should watch anyway :)

Here’s two art experiments I have done this week. Firstly, a picture of my friend comprised out of 16 identical images. I would like to try this again with more detail, and possibly figure out a way of incorporating it into a video or animation.
Second is a test of using a mirror as a platform. It gives a really nice effect that I think could work well in a video clip.
These are photos of my first lot of happy hour poster hung up. They were taken on a mobile, so they’re not very good. Also, you can’t see the very large scale of them too well in these. I have since printed off 5 more posters to stick up, and will get them around the Art School tomorrow. THanks Cameron for letting me use your camera(on) phone!
SCARY AS SHIT. WATCH
